While visiting my family over the holidays, my Nana gave me a prized possesion. Her mother-in-laws cookbook from 1940. Are you kidding me? What a priceless heirloom. It means that much more to me now that I've really gotten into cooking and baking. I didn't always like to cook, in fact for the first 3 years of my marriage, it was pretty much William who did all the cooking. He's actually a really good cook.
I so enjoyed looking through the cookbook, seeing Din-Din's writing and notes and even the ads from 1940, like this one...
Across the page was a little post about how I could send in $.02 to receive a copy of this cookbook. Isn't that awesome?
Her original handwriting. I so wish I could just sit down with her and have a cup of tea and chat about life in the 1940s. I often feel I was born in the wrong decade.
The stains, tears and textures are what make this such a treasure to me. As I am growing up, I'm appreciating my heritage and culture and rich history. The next time I sit down with my Nana, I'm going to bring a recorder and have her share some stories with me. Just when I think I've seen a lot of historical moments, I think of what she's seen and experienced in her lifetime. Wow. Thank you Nana for such a wonderful gift. I will cherish and continue to pass it down within the family.

I really struggled to narrow it down to one because I got such CREATIVE names, wow! I picked this one because after making her, I thought she looked Japanese, so Kristina's name was right on that wavelength.
Thank you all for participating, I will be doing more giveaways so stay tuned.
"She's adorable, Heather! She looks Japanese to me. How about Miko (pronounced mee-ko)?"
Thanks Kristina, love the name!
Oh, and because I can't post without a picture, I'm LOVING the vintage look of these new actions I downloaded from the Pioneer Woman's site. Check out what it did to this shot. She's got lots of recipies too, definitely a fun site to browse.
